Relaunching Komotion

After nine years of intrepid boating and flying the Whitehaven flag, it was time for Komotion to get some TLC. The Whitehaven 7000 Flybridge underwent a refit and emerged more glamorous than ever before heading north to enjoy winter in Queensland.

Nine years ago, almost to the day, in some awful weather, Komotion arrived into Botany Bay ready to be unloaded to her new owners, Bruce and Julie. It was a particularly important delivery as Bruce and Julie had seen the power and potential in the brand and invested in the company. There were a lot of eyes on this new boat.

With the Sydney International Boat Show looming and unloading delayed due to inclement weather, Bruce along with Keith and Ryan Hanson – the father/son team who had started Whitehaven – delivered her from Botany Bay into Sydney Harbour. It was just in time for a private celebration then the boat show.

Komotion was a hit at the show with long lines of visitors queued to get onboard. She was the second boat to be launched by Whitehaven and was a turning point for the company. Even now with a fleet of Whitehavens cruising Australia, she is the flagship yacht.

So, it was time to repay the love with a refit. Under the watchful eyes of Ryan, Production Director, and Misha Merzliakov, Yacht Designer, a comprehensive list of works was completed over a couple of months.

Ryan managed the major engineering works which saw the mechanical systems serviced and overhauled where required. Much attention was given to the engine room, with major services conducted to the Caterpillar engines and twin Onan Gensets which required very little attention given the age of the boat.

The finale touches were also given to the electronic systems onboard to ensure they were operating at their optimum in preparation for its journey to the Whitsundays.

Perhaps most noticeably, Komotion had a complete exterior repaint using Awlgrip metallic paint to modernise her hull and superstructure. Two tones were selected, one to match the original hull colour and another to provide highlights on the main deck and flybridge. Exterior tables were upgraded with Corian tops finished in stainless steel detailing whilst the exterior upholstery now reflects the metallic paint with its hexagonal embossed silvertex and piping detail.

Inside, the upholstery was updated to Ultraleather whilst the accommodation suites received new bedheads and linen of the finest Italian fabrics. New internal flooring and galley appliances will mean this boat has years of stylish entertainment ahead of it. As a testament to the durability of the product, the internal Corian surfaces needed only refinishing.

“We love this boat as much as we did on the very first day we stepped onboard. Now she more glamorous than ever and ready to lead our rendezvous north,” stated Julie.
